‘How could you use drug capsules to create images of celebrities who have overdosed on prescription drugs’.
This thinking inspired the use of empty drug capsules individually filled with hand dyed and baked hundreds and thousands in the many shades required to create the final images. Each celebrity was laid out on a table to get the shades and colours correct. Then mounted row by row onto board and glued in place, using both a set square and t square to ensure the image remained straight and square. The finished artwork was then framed using conservation / UV protection glass.
In the creation of Sad Marilyn, 2904 individual created prescription capsules have been used.
