From Mickey to Tiki Tu Meke

Dick Frizzell is considered one of New Zealands most competent figurative painters. He is an expert draughtsman and made his living as a commercial artist for eight years after he graduated. Frizzell has travelled widely and studied overseas as well as winning several art awards. He tutored at Elam School of Fine Arts for many years but now paints full time. Frizzells personal style has been described as Expressionist Pop. This can range from crudely rendered labels to landscapes and his Tiki Series. He exhibits widely and has a number of his art works in galleries throughout New Zealand. Frizzells humour is evident throughout his work and he has the ability to bring to the viewers attention irony and humour in the everyday image.
