Paul Klee
Paul Klee was born in Switzerland in 1879 into a family of musicians. He studied art in Munich from 1898 to 1901 then made his first of many trips to abroad. From 1911 to 1913 he met many recognised and successful avant-garde artists whose feel for abstraction matched his own. Colour became significant in his art following a trip to Tunisia in 1914.
Klee taught throughout Europe and exhibited extensively there and in the USA where his works can be found in public and private collections. He died in Switzerland in 1940.
