Michael Mirfin

Michael Mirfin was born in Nelson, in 1953. He moved to Wellington where he lived for the next eighteen years of his life. He has always had a love of drawing which led him onto painting which is now his primary concern. He studied Visual Communications at the Wellington Polytechnic and moved to Australia in the early 1970?s living in Sydney for ten years and working as an art director in advertising. He painted there but was interested in photography at that time. Mirfin travelled and lived in Japan and the East, to where he returned after a brief time in Australia. In Singapore and Hong Kong, he worked in the advertising industry as an art director and had five one man shows. He has recently returned to New Zealand and exhibited paintings of landscapes focusing on light and dark tonalities and colour.
