Lola Badman

Lola Badman was born in Christchurch 1937. She became a full time artist in 1984 after gaining the Diploma of the NZ Council for Recreation and Sport, specialising in art therapy at Waikato Hospitals psychiatric unit. In 1985 she was awarded a New Zealand Academy of Arts award for landscape painting. Lola previously studied painting with Paul Olds and violin at Victoria University. Lola considers music, literature, dance and experience of other art forms have been essential to her as a painter. Badman employs environmental and landscape themes in her work. She often uses the mosaic as a basis for the compositions of her paintings, as she finds the geometric aspect of graphic design to be satisfying. She has exhibited widely in both group and solo shows and her work is displayed in public and private collections in New Zealand, Australia, China and Portugal, USA & Jamaica.
