Libby Lockhart

Libby Lockhart was born in Whakatane in 1956 and art formed an integral part in her education. Between 1975 and 1977 she completed a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Art History and Archaeology. In 1978 she attended Teachers Training College, where she trained under Nelson Thompson and Max Gimblett to teach secondary school children visual arts. In the following years Lockhart traveled overseas extensively keeping a visual log. She has continued to develop her skills as an artist through attending various summer schools, workshops and through tuition in life drawing. She has had numerous successful exhibitions in Auckland. Lockharts works are predominantly acrylic paintings on canvas or board which often incorporate gold leaf and over glazing. She explores themes of human interconnectedness and life experience.
