John Drawbridge

Deceased artist John Drawbridge was born in Wellington. He trained in Wellington, in Dunedin and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. He was a teacher, printmaker, muralist, sculptor, stained glass and rug designer, watercolourist and painter and has achieved distinction in all these fields. He exhibited widely overseas and received many awards. In New Zealand he is perhaps best known for his op art murals, such as those in the Beehive and in the National Library in Wellington. Over the years, discerning collectors of prints have noted Drawbridges particular mastery of this medium. His subject matter is always simple, yet there is a subtlety and complexity in the finished work that can be relished for years.
