Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper (1882-1967), was a popular American artist working during the modern period. Hopper explored aspects of light both natural and artificial, space and the interactions of people and their environment in his works. His painterly style was also an exploration of texture and the layering of paint on the canvas. His work Nighthawks is arguably his most famous and recognisable work. It explores a theme common to Hopper?s work, the modern urban environment and the isolation of people within it. It is part of the public collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
